People are changing. There is a shift in the relationship between the internal and external worlds. A boundary is disappearing – where I begin and end and where others are and are no longer. A shoreline is flattening out. A coast is becoming shallow.
The content of a domain once referred to as the psyche and deemed private and intimate is being shared in the social environment. A network-based and self-defining public sphere is emerging from this extroverted interiority – one that appears to be founded on friendships. It consists of published private matters and is a collective form of solitude.
And why should you be with others if you feel just as good alone? How terrible that sounds. But how wonderful it is – ultra has dedicated itself to the solitary.
This means focusing completely on oneself in the belief that if others do the same, something unimaginable will be created which would have been impossible to achieve alone. It means being open enough about what we do to the point where we can be influenced and changed by what others do. Sensitive autonomy.
The solitude we’re seeking has become a social condition. And as a result an unattainable desire. A yearning for one’s self, as we’ve long expressed and sold ourselves, a longing for nothing beyond. This is the source of the shift which balances out the pressure between the internal and external. Wind between two misunderstood continents populated by people.
This is scientific elegance: the poles and the equator, the atmosphere, the Coriolis effect, isobars and parallels, true and false winds.
Sensible Autonomie.
